About program
- The core Abacus mental math program is based on the Chinese abacus (Suanpan) method of teaching which is popular in many Asian countries, including Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore Japan and India.
- Initially, students learn to manipulate the beads of the abacus to perform math calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division). Students also learn to visualize the abacus, and are able to perform math calculations mentally without the physical presence of an abacus.
- Classes have been designed to be fun & interactive for all students.
- Students are taught in a classroom environment in small groups of no more than 10 students per instructor.
- All students are provided with an abacus, a carrying case, Abacus Math sheets, and a set of flash cards.
- Each class is 60 minutes long, consisting of abacus manipulation and visualization activities.
- In addition to the classroom sessions, students are asked to practice at home for 10-15 minutes at least 3-4 times per week. Regular practice of the abacus is important to the learning process, just as students practice musical instruments or sports regularly in order to improve their skills.
- The entire program consists of 6 Levels 3 years long.
